spreadsheet & sum jan 14 and 16

Daily procedures
1. Get assignment sheet and write today's assignment (see Do Today)
2.When I am giving instructions,
be in a seat
3. When I am giving instructions, electronic devices should be invisible
4. Do not interfere with instructions
or disrupt class
5. Turn in your assignment sheet at the end of class

Computers & electronic devices are for classwork only

Do Today:

1. It will be good if you have picked a partner for upcoming assignments.

2. Write meaning of  terms from Quizlet. Summarize, paraphrase, don't just copy.

3. Label a spreadsheet . Really simple, but several did not get this done.

4. Watch Google Sheets Tutorial - Designed for Beginners and follow steps

Objectives:
1. Identify certain spreadsheet terminology

2. Create a spreadsheet shown in a tutorial

Standards:

14) Use a spreadsheet program to create and format academic and business documents for the
purposes of tabulating and calculating numerical and/or textual data (e.g., statistics, historical
data, measurements), such as budget calculations, sales reports, lab data, and related analyses.
(Reading 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9; TN Writing 4, 6; TN Math N-Q, S-ID)

15) Craft documents using a spreadsheet program using features and methods such as:
a. Cells, columns, and rows
b. Formulas and functions
Approved April 10, 2015
Page 4
c. Copy, move, delete, and fill
d. Cell-value formats (numerical and text) and alignment
e. Column and row width/height, insert/delete, move
f. Printing to a selected printer
g. Saving with a file format that can be shared and/or transported
(TN Reading 3, 4, 5; TN Writing 4, 6; TN Math N-Q, S-ID)

16) Create new formulas to analyze data by calculating with, extracting from, presenting, and/or
summarizing, including:
a. Basic arithmetic calculations
b. Basic mathematic (e.g., SUM, AVG, MIN, MAX) and text (e.g., LEN, LEFT, RIGHT, MID)
functions
c. Copying formulas that include both relative and absolute cell references
d. Sorting in ascending/descending order
e. Filtering data to retrieve specific values
f. Basic conditional formatting (e.g., red for negative values)
(TN Reading 3, 4, 5; TN Writing 6; TN Math N-Q, S-ID)

17) Create and format for optimal clarity a variety of types of graphs and charts, including bar
charts, line charts, pie charts, and X-Y graphs, based on tabulated data. (TN Reading 3, 4, 7;
Writing 4, 5, 6; TN Math N-Q, S-ID)

18) Retrieve a spreadsheet template (from those installed with the program or from the Internet)
and customize it for a particular assignment approved by the instructor. For example, prepare a
“timecard” of one’s daily hours spent on a month-long job assignment. (TN Writing 6)

Assignment directions:

1. Label a spreadsheet. Write these terms in the correct location on the sheet: cell, row, column

2. Write meaning of these terms from Quizlet  https://quizlet.com/878645/spreadsheet-vocabulary-flash-cards/

Scroll down to see all terms at once:
Alignment, Autosum, Cell,Column,
Format, Formula, Freeze, Function,
Label, Range, Row, Sort,
Spreadsheet, Value, Workbook,
Worksheet

3. Begin to watch Google Sheets Tutorial - Designed for Beginners. Recreate what the presenter does as you follow. Watch, pause, create.

a. Watch until 8:47. Stop and do what the presenter did.

b. Add formats as currency.  About 10:00

c. Watch until about 12:56. Do the SUM function

d. Do the average function which ends at 14:24

e. Skip to 17:00 if you want to.

Show me when you have finished

Your grade:

4_advanced_93-100 points. A strong amount of work has been completed. All instructions & specifications met. A comprehensive and wide-ranging exploration of visual qualities, the representation of ideas, media experiments, and technical practice is demonstrated. The work reflects superior thought and imagination.

3_proficient_85-92 points. A reasonable amount of work has been completed. Most instructions and specifications met. The work illustrates satisfactory exploration of visual qualities, and the representation of ideas. There is satisfactory evidence of work on images, media experiments, and technical practice.

2_basic_75-84 points. A small amount of work has been completed. Some instructions and specifications met. The work illustrates some exploration of visual qualities, the representation of ideas. There is some evidence of work on images, media experiments and technical practice.

1_below basic_74 and below. A less than adequate amount of work has been completed. There is little evidence of work on images, media, and technical practice.
